Margherita Pizza
The classic, simple, and incredibly delicious Italian pizza. Perfect for beginners!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 package) active dry yeast
- 2 1/2 cups (300g) bread flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 12-ounce (340g) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 8 ounces (225g) fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Add flour mixture to yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 475°F (246°C).
- Roll out dough to 12-inch circle.
- Spread crushed tomatoes evenly over dough. Sprinkle with oregano and salt.
- Top with mozzarella slices.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve immediately.
