Manchester City Move Closer as Pep Eyes German Talent
Manchester City are reportedly preparing a substantial bid for highly-rated German midfielder, Leon Schmidt, according to sources close to the club. Pep Guardiola has been a long-time admirer of Schmidt's dynamic playmaking ability and composure on the ball, and believes the 22-year-old could be a perfect fit for his midfield system.
Schmidt, currently playing for Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf, has been attracting interest from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. However, City's willingness to offer a significant fee and a lucrative contract is said to have put them ahead of the competition.
“Pep rates Schmidt enormously,” said a club source. “He sees him as a player with the intelligence and work ethic to thrive in his system. The next few weeks will be crucial as City attempt to finalize the deal before other clubs can swoop in.”
The move would be a testament to City’s continued investment in young talent and further strengthen their midfield options ahead of next season’s Premier League campaign.
