Yes, the character of Silas, the hermit of the shadowed grove, proved to be quite challenging. His motivations are complex and his backstory is shrouded in mystery, making it difficult to balance his enigmatic nature with the need for him to be a relatable (or at least understandable) part of Lyra's story.
