Hey everyone! I've been seeing a lot of conflicting advice out there lately. Some sources say you absolutely need to prioritize strength training for effective fat loss because of the muscle-building benefits, while others champion cardio as the king of calorie burning.
I personally find a mix works best, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts. What's your experience? Do you lean more towards one over the other, and why? What are your go-to exercises for each? Let's get a good discussion going!

Great topic, FitGuru27! I'm firmly in the strength training camp for fat loss. Building muscle increases your metabolism, meaning you burn more calories even at rest. Plus, the "afterburn effect" (EPOC) from lifting is significant. Cardio is good for heart health and can help with calorie deficit, but it doesn't build the metabolic engine like strength training does. My go-to is compound lifts: squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press.

While I agree strength training is vital, I think you're underselling cardio for fat loss! The sheer volume of calories you can burn in a single cardio session, especially HIIT, is hard to match with weights. And for me, it's also about mental clarity and stress relief. I’ve found that consistent cardio, combined with a good diet, has led to the best fat loss results for me. I do a mix, but my running sessions are where I feel like I'm really torching calories.

Honestly, it's all about the calorie deficit. You can do all the strength training or cardio in the world, but if you're eating more calories than you burn, you won't lose fat. For me, the best approach is the one that's sustainable. I enjoy both, so I do a 3-day full-body strength routine and 2-3 days of moderate cardio (like cycling or brisk walking). It keeps things interesting and I feel great!
