Hey everyone,

I've been having a persistent issue with my PC randomly shutting down. It happens without any warning, no blue screen, no error messages, just a sudden power off. It's been happening for about a week now, and it's starting to drive me crazy.

Here are my system specs:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E
  • RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600MHz Corsair Vengeance
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD (Samsung 980 Pro) + 2TB HDD
  • PSU: Corsair RM850x (850W Gold)
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro

What I've tried so far:

I've gone through a bunch of common troubleshooting steps:

  • Checked temperatures: Using HWMonitor, my CPU temps rarely go above 70°C and GPU temps around 65°C, even under load. So, overheating seems unlikely.
  • Updated drivers: All my GPU, motherboard, and chipset drivers are up to date.
  • Ran Windows Memory Diagnostic: No errors found.
  • Checked Event Viewer: I see "The previous system shutdown at [time] on [date] was unexpected" in the System log, but no specific error code preceding it that points to a hardware failure.
  • Tested PSU: I haven't stress-tested the PSU directly, but it's a reputable brand and wattage, and it's only about 2 years old. No other components are being pushed beyond spec.
  • Reseated components: I've unplugged and replugged the RAM, GPU, and power cables.

Specifics of the Shutdowns:

The shutdowns happen at random times. Sometimes it's when I'm gaming, sometimes when I'm just browsing the web, and even once while the PC was idle. There's no pattern related to specific applications or heavy load.

Could this be a faulty motherboard? A failing PSU that's intermittent? Or is there something else I should be looking into? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
