A detailed breakdown of a fantastic budget gaming PC build that delivers excellent performance for its price point, perfect for 1080p gaming on a budget of $800.

The Ultimate $800 Gaming Machine!

Hey everyone! I've been working on a new budget build, and I'm really excited to share this one. The goal was to hit that sweet spot for 1080p gaming without breaking the bank. After lots of research and testing, I've finalized a configuration that offers incredible value.

Here's the core of the build:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600 - Fantastic gaming performance for the price.
  • Motherboard: MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI - Reliable B550 board with Wi-Fi included.
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz - Standard for smooth gaming.
  • Storage: Crucial P3 Plus 1TB NVMe SSD - Fast boot times and plenty of space for games.
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT 12GB - This is the star of the show, offering excellent 1080p performance and even capable of 1440p on some titles.
  • Case: Phanteks Eclipse P300A Mesh - Great airflow at an affordable price.
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM650x (2021) 650W 80+ Gold - Efficient and reliable.

Estimated Total Cost: ~$780 (prices may vary slightly based on sales)

This build should easily handle most modern AAA titles at 1080p with high settings, achieving well over 60 FPS. For competitive esports titles, you'll be pushing hundreds of FPS. I've included a link to a PCPartPicker list for easy reference and purchasing:

Re: 101: Budget Gaming Rig Under $800

Wow, TechWizard99, this looks like a killer build! The RX 6700 XT is a great pick for the price, especially if you can find it on sale. I'm curious, did you consider the Intel Arc A770 for the GPU? I've heard it's competitive in some newer titles, especially with its 16GB VRAM option.

Re: 101: Budget Gaming Rig Under $800

Great build, TW99! I'm actually planning to build something similar. Is the Ryzen 5 5600 sufficient for future-proofing, or should I consider a Ryzen 5 7600 if my budget can stretch a bit?

Re: 101: Budget Gaming Rig Under $800

Hey @MysticPixel and @SilentGamer, thanks for the great questions!

Regarding the Intel Arc A770: While it has improved significantly with driver updates, the RX 6700 XT still offers more consistent performance across a wider range of games and better ray tracing capabilities for its price tier. The A770 can be compelling in specific DirectX 12 titles, but for an all-around budget build, the 6700 XT is usually the safer bet. Plus, driver stability has historically been more of a concern with Arc.

For future-proofing, the Ryzen 5 5600 is excellent for the AM4 platform and will serve you very well for the next few years of 1080p and even 1440p gaming. Upgrading to the Ryzen 5 7600 would involve switching to the AM5 platform, which requires a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, pushing the cost significantly higher. For an $800 budget, sticking with AM4 and the 5600 is the most cost-effective way to maximize GPU power, which is often more critical for gaming performance at this price point. If you have the budget flexibility for AM5, it's definitely a longer-term investment, but the 5600 is no slouch!
