Troubleshooting Network Issues

My internet connection is extremely slow and keeps dropping. Help!

Hello everyone, I've been having persistent issues with my home network for the past week. My internet connection is incredibly slow, and it frequently disconnects, sometimes for several minutes at a time. This is happening on all my devices (laptop, phone, smart TV). I've already tried: - Rebooting my modem and router multiple times. - Checking all cable connections to ensure they are secure. - Testing the connection with a wired Ethernet cable directly to the router, which didn't seem to make a significant difference. - Running speed tests (results are consistently far below my subscribed plan speed). My ISP (Internet Service Provider) claims there are no outages in my area. I'm starting to suspect it might be an issue with my router or potentially an interference problem. Has anyone experienced similar issues and found a solution? Any advice or steps I can take to diagnose this further would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi JohnDoe, Sorry to hear you're having trouble! It's frustrating when the ISP says everything is fine. Have you checked your router's logs for any specific error messages when the connection drops? Sometimes that can give a clue. Also, can you tell us the make and model of your router and modem? That might help narrow down if it's a known issue with that hardware. One other thing to consider is the WiFi channel. If you're in a crowded area, multiple networks can interfere. You can often change this in your router's settings.

Thanks for the quick reply, JaneSmith! I haven't checked the router logs yet – that's a good suggestion. I'll look into that tonight. My router is a TP-Link Archer AX73, and the modem is provided by my ISP, a Technicolor CABLE modem. I'll try to find the model number for that too. Changing the WiFi channel is also something I can try. I live in an apartment building, so interference is definitely a possibility. Do you have any recommendations for tools to scan for WiFi channels?

Hey JohnDoe, For WiFi channel scanning on Windows, you can use tools like Acrylic Wi-Fi Free or WiFi Analyzer (if you have an Android phone, you can use that too). They show you which channels are most congested in your area. Generally, for 2.4GHz, channels 1, 6, and 11 are best as they don't overlap. For 5GHz, there are more non-overlapping channels. Also, when you're checking the router logs, look for anything related to "timeouts," "disconnections," or "cable modem sync issues."
