Excellent points, Alice and John. The progress in error correction is indeed critical. While topological qubits offer inherent advantages, their fabrication complexity is a significant barrier. The community is also heavily invested in improving the fidelity of operations in existing modalities. Hybrid approaches are definitely key in the near term. We're seeing algorithms that leverage classical computers for optimization and control, while delegating the computationally intensive parts to quantum processors. This allows us to explore potential applications even with noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. One area I find fascinating is the application of quantum algorithms for financial modeling. The potential for risk analysis and portfolio optimization is enormous, but still very much in its infancy.
