Getting Started with Windows IoT
Welcome to the Windows IoT getting‑started guide. This page will walk you through the essential steps to set up a device, develop your first app, and deploy it to your hardware.
1. Choose Your Hardware
Windows IoT supports a range of devices. Below are the most common options:
- Raspberry Pi 4 (2 GB / 4 GB)
- DragonBoard 410c
- Intel NUC
- MinWin boards
2. Install Windows IoT Core
Download and flash the latest Windows IoT Core image to an SD card using the Windows IoT Dashboard.
1. Download Windows IoT Core Dashboard from Microsoft.
2. Insert an SD card (minimum 8 GB).
3. In the Dashboard, select “Set up a new device”.
4. Choose your device type and follow the prompts.
3. Connect to Your Device
After flashing, power on the board and connect it to the same network as your development PC. Use PowerShell to verify the connection:
Enter-PSSession -ComputerName <device_name> -Credential (Get-Credential)
4. Create a UWP App
Open Visual Studio and create a new “Blank App (Universal Windows)”. Choose the “Windows IoT Core” target platform.
5. Deploy and Run
Set the remote device as the deployment target and click Run. Your app will launch on the IoT device.
