The memory management process is crucial for modern computing. It involves allocating and managing the physical memory (RAM) that your computer uses to store data and instructions.

This process is intricately linked with CPU performance and overall system responsiveness.

Key Concepts:

The Memory Hierarchy: Modern systems employ a layered memory hierarchy – a combination of levels: L1, L2, and L3 cache memory. Each level provides faster access than the previous.

The CPU often first checks the L1 cache. If not found, it checks L2, and so on, eventually accessing the L3 cache, which provides the most direct access. A good system optimizes data placement across these levels.
