Classic Lasagna

Ingredients

  1. 1 pound ground beef
  2. 1 onion, chopped
  3. 2 cloves garlic, minced
  4. 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  5. 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  6. 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  7. 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  8. Salt and pepper to taste
  9. 1 pound lasagna noodles
  10. 2 cups ricotta cheese
  11. 1 egg
  12. 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  13. 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef with the onion and garlic. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package directions.
  5. In a bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Parmesan cheese.
  6. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Layer with lasagna noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown.
