ExpressRoute Premium Features
Azure ExpressRoute Premium is an add-on that enables higher bandwidth, more circuits, and additional features for your ExpressRoute connections.
Key Benefits of Premium Add-on:
- Increased bandwidth options.
- Support for more ExpressRoute circuits.
- Extended global reach and connectivity.
- Higher number of BGP communities.
- Enhanced performance with improved routing information.
Premium Connectivity Options
The ExpressRoute Premium add-on offers several advantages over standard ExpressRoute circuits:
- Higher Bandwidth: Premium allows for higher bandwidth provisioning, catering to more demanding workloads.
- Increased Number of Circuits: Provision multiple ExpressRoute circuits in a single peering location, offering redundancy and increased capacity.
- Global Reach: Connect to any Azure region worldwide, regardless of your physical location. This is crucial for organizations with a global presence.
- Larger Routing Table: Receive a larger set of Azure public IP prefixes and a larger set of on-premises prefixes. This enables more complex network architectures and connectivity to a wider range of services.
Enabling ExpressRoute Premium
To enable the Premium add-on for your ExpressRoute circuit, you can do so through the Azure portal, Azure CLI, or Azure PowerShell. The change is typically applied instantly.
Azure Portal Steps:
- Navigate to your ExpressRoute circuit in the Azure portal.
- In the Overview blade, select the "Add-ons" tab.
- Toggle the "Premium" option to "Enabled".
- Click "Save" to apply the changes.
Use Cases for ExpressRoute Premium
ExpressRoute Premium is ideal for scenarios such as:
- Global Data Synchronization: Replicating data across multiple Azure regions globally.
- Large-scale Disaster Recovery: Implementing robust disaster recovery solutions that span continents.
- Hybrid Cloud Architectures: Connecting distributed on-premises datacenters to various Azure regions.
- High-performance Computing: Applications requiring high bandwidth and low latency connections for large datasets.
Pricing Information
ExpressRoute Premium incurs additional costs on top of the standard ExpressRoute circuit pricing. These costs are typically based on the data egress and the Premium add-on itself. For detailed pricing, please refer to the Azure ExpressRoute pricing page.
