ExpressRoute Pricing Details
This document outlines the pricing model for Azure ExpressRoute, a service that allows you to create private connections between Azure datacenters and your infrastructure, located either on-premises or in a colocation environment.
ExpressRoute pricing is based on several factors, including the bandwidth you select, the data transfer (ingress/egress), and the SKU chosen (Standard vs. Premium).
Components of ExpressRoute Pricing
Understanding the different components helps in estimating your costs:
- Port Speed / Bandwidth: The guaranteed bandwidth allocated to your ExpressRoute circuit.
- Data Transfer: Charges for data moved through your ExpressRoute circuit. Ingress to Azure is typically free, while egress from Azure is charged.
- SKU (Standard/Premium): The Premium SKU offers additional features such as global connectivity and larger routing tables, at a higher cost.
- Provider Charges: Costs associated with the connectivity provider that bridges your network to the Azure network. These are separate from Azure charges and vary by provider.
Standard SKU Pricing
The Standard SKU provides connectivity within a specific Azure region.
| Port Speed (Mbps) | Monthly Port Charge (USD) | Data Transfer (Egress - USD per GB) |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | $100 | $0.02 |
| 100 | $200 | $0.02 |
| 200 | $400 | $0.02 |
| 500 | $800 | $0.02 |
| 1,000 | $1,500 | $0.02 |
| 2,000 | $2,500 | $0.02 |
| 5,000 | $5,000 | $0.02 |
| 10,000 | $10,000 | $0.02 |
Premium SKU Pricing
The Premium SKU extends connectivity globally and offers enhanced features.
| Port Speed (Mbps) | Monthly Port Charge (USD) | Data Transfer (Egress - USD per GB) |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | $200 | $0.02 |
| 100 | $400 | $0.02 |
| 200 | $800 | $0.02 |
| 500 | $1,600 | $0.02 |
| 1,000 | $3,000 | $0.02 |
| 2,000 | $5,000 | $0.02 |
| 5,000 | $10,000 | $0.02 |
| 10,000 | $20,000 | $0.02 |
- The data transfer rate of $0.02 per GB applies to all SKUs and speeds listed.
- Ingress data transfer into Azure is free of charge for all ExpressRoute circuits.
- You will also incur charges from your connectivity provider for the physical connection to the Azure network edge.
- ExpressRoute Direct offers dedicated 10 Gbps or 100 Gbps ports with potentially different pricing structures. Refer to specific documentation for these options.
Service Provider Costs
Beyond Azure's direct charges, you will need to factor in the costs from your chosen network service provider. These costs typically cover the physical cross-connects and the service provider's network services to deliver connectivity to your location.
Commitment Tiers
Azure offers commitment tiers for ExpressRoute, allowing you to save on monthly port charges by committing to a longer-term usage. These tiers typically offer discounts for 1-year, 3-year, or custom commitments.
