Blob Soft Delete

What is Blob Soft Delete?

Soft delete protects your blob data from accidental or malicious deletions. When enabled, deleted blobs and their snapshots are retained for a specified period, allowing you to recover them if needed.

Enable Soft Delete

Activate soft delete for blob containers to safeguard your data against accidental deletions. Configurable retention periods provide flexibility.

Enabled

Retention Period: 7 days

How it Works

When soft delete is enabled, deleting a blob doesn't immediately remove it. Instead, it's marked for deletion and moved to a soft-deleted state. During the retention period, you can undelete the blob.

  • Blobs are retained for a configurable duration (e.g., 1-365 days).
  • Snapshots are also protected.
  • Deleted blobs can be restored to their previous state.

Restore Deleted Blobs

Recover accidentally deleted blobs or snapshots from their soft-deleted state. This process restores the blob to its original container.

Note: Restoration is only possible within the defined retention period.

  • Set a retention period that balances data protection and storage costs.
  • Understand the implications for versioning and immutability.
  • Integrate soft delete monitoring into your operational workflows.
