Best PSU for Gaming Rig - RTX 4090 Build

Hey everyone, I'm building a new high-end gaming rig and I'm struggling to decide on the Power Supply Unit (PSU). My core components will be:
  • CPU: Intel Core i9-13900K
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000MHz
  • Storage: 2x NVMe SSDs, 1x SATA SSD
  • Cooling: 360mm AIO Liquid Cooler, 6 case fans
I've read that the RTX 4090 can have significant transient power spikes. I'm looking for a PSU that's reliable, efficient (Gold or Platinum rated), and has enough headroom for overclocking and potential future upgrades. What are your recommendations for a 1000W+ PSU? I'm considering Corsair, Seasonic, or be quiet!, but I'm open to other reputable brands. Any specific models you've had good experiences with? Thanks in advance!

GamerX, for an RTX 4090 build, you absolutely want to go with at least a 1000W, and 1200W is safer if you plan on heavy overclocking or running less efficient components. I'd highly recommend the Seasonic PRIME TX-1200 (1200W Platinum). Seasonic's PRIME series is top-tier for reliability and build quality. It also comes with a very long warranty.

I agree with CyberSurfer. Seasonic is a great choice. Alternatively, the Corsair HX1200 (1200W Platinum) is also an excellent option. I've used one in my own 4090 build, and it runs cool and quiet even under heavy load. Make sure it's ATX 3.0 compliant if you want the best compatibility with the 12VHPWR connector.

Don't forget be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W Titanium. It's ATX 3.0 ready and has fantastic efficiency. The build quality is impeccable, and they're known for their silent operation, which is a big plus for a gaming rig. 1000W is generally sufficient for a 4090, but 1200W gives you that extra peace of mind.

What about 850W? Is that really not enough? I was hoping to save a bit by getting an 850W Platinum.

@RookieDrafter, while an 850W *might* work on paper for a non-overclocked system, the RTX 4090 is notorious for its power excursions (transient spikes). These spikes can briefly draw much more power than the average, and an 850W PSU might struggle to handle them, leading to instability or shutdowns. It's safer to over-provision by at least 20-30% for a card like the 4090. Stick to 1000W minimum, preferably 1200W.
