Near-Term Goals (Next 6-12 Months)
- Enhanced UI Performance & Responsiveness Focus on optimizing dashboard loading times, improving DAGs view interactivity, and reducing frontend resource consumption. In Progress
- KubernetesExecutor Improvements Further refinements to the KubernetesExecutor, including enhanced pod lifecycle management, better resource utilization, and more robust error handling. In Progress
- New Task Group Capabilities Introducing more advanced features for Task Groups, such as nested Task Groups and improved visualization of complex dependencies within groups. Planned
- Expanded Data Quality Integrations Strengthening built-in support and integrations for data quality checks and validation frameworks directly within Airflow tasks. Planned
Mid-Term Goals (12-24 Months)
- Serverless Airflow Architecture Exploring and developing a more serverless-native architecture for Airflow deployments, reducing operational overhead. Backlog
- AI/ML Workflow Orchestration Enhancements Dedicated features and integrations tailored for MLOps, including experiment tracking, model deployment pipelines, and feature store integrations. Backlog
- Real-time Data Pipeline Support Investigating mechanisms to better support and orchestrate near real-time or streaming data pipelines. Backlog
- Improved Observability & Monitoring Deeper integration with modern observability stacks (e.g., OpenTelemetry), providing more comprehensive insights into workflow execution. Backlog
Long-Term Vision (24+ Months)
- Universal Data Orchestration Layer Positioning Airflow as a foundational layer for orchestrating diverse data processing paradigms, from batch to streaming to event-driven architectures. Backlog
- Decentralized Workflow Management Exploring concepts for more decentralized and resilient workflow management patterns. Backlog
