Understanding Moving Averages
Moving averages smooth out price data to help identify trends. The two most common types are:
- SMA (Simple Moving Average) – averages price over a set period.
- EMA (Exponential Moving Average) – gives more weight to recent prices.
Choosing the right period depends on your trading horizon: shorter periods react faster but can be noisy; longer periods provide smoother signals but are slower to react.
